1st Place @ Int'l & Australia Salsa Solo

Brisbane, Australia

Over the weekend 29 November - 01 December 2013, the Australia & International Salsa Solo Championships took place in sunny Brisbane (Queensland), Australia.

Latinissimo's Salsa Ladies A-Team were the New Zealand representatives as the team had already qualified for this competition when taking out 1st place at the New Zealand Salsa Solo Competition back in August that same year. This was the first ladies shines team to represent Latinissimo at this prestigious and growing competition.

Although the majority of the team members are Amateur dancers, the Team entered the Semi-Professional Team category as one of the dancer in the team (Tania Mason) is under the current Salsa Solo regulations considered semi-professional. This means that it is a dancer who receives up to a certain amount of monetary compensation for dancing or teaching salsa dancing.

What does Salsa Solo Mean?

Salsa Solo means dancers are not required to have dance partners. Infact, the rules do not allow it at this competition. Instead the dancing is focused on what is called Salsa Shines which is footwork, body movement, arms, hips and more. Of course there are other criteria as well. Learn more about Salsa Shines here.

The girls have been working hard on their routine since June and have now gathered 2 national titles and 1 international title since their first competition 4 months ago!
