4th Place @ World DanceSport Games

Kaohsiung, Taiwan

Giancarlo & Masha were sole New Zealand representatives @ the World Dance Sport Games in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

With full sponsorship covering return flights and accomodation from the IDO (International Dance Organization) and (KOC) Kaohsiung Organization Committee they entered the "Caribbean dance" category which include Salsa, Bachata and Merengue.

Only one couple per country is allowed to enter - 15 countries were on the start list for this particular category. At first there were 18 entries, however 3 did not make it to the competition due to different complications.

The first round of competition started at 9am sharp as the entire 4 day event was televised live across Taiwanese television.

Semifinal was at 2:45pm and Final at 6pm. All 6 couples who reached the Finals dance a total of 27(!) times in this one day in order to complete the competition. 10 times consecutively in the first and second round, then 7 times consecutively in the final round. This was the most exhausting dance competition to date Giancarlo & Masha have participated in and the first ever with this unique layout of dancing Salsa, Bachata and Merengue one after the other. In fact, Giancarlo & Masha had never competed in Merengue.
