Level Description/Guidance:
Level 1: Suitable for beginners who have completed level 1. No experience or prior knowledge necessary. No partner necessary.
Level 2: Suitable for dancers who have experience with the basic footwork, partner fundamentals and basic timing & rhythm.
Level 3: Suitable for dancers who are familar with and are able to execute all basic foowork, all basic shines, variations of the fundamentals and variations of timing & rhythm.
Open Level: Suitable for all levels. Not suitable for complete beginners with no experience. Must have knowledge of basic steps in Salsa and/or Bachata in order to take full advantage of the course.
Brief workshop description
WORKSHOP BODY MOVEMENT TECHNIQUE - This is not a "styling" course. This workshop is to introduce you to gain understanding of the body mechanics to create fluid movement when dancing salsa or bachata. As result be able to “execute” the movements rather than simply “going through the motions”. In this 90min workshop we will look at the mechanics of hip movement and rolling movements of the sternum and chest. Normally there is not enough time to go over these details in the regular courses, therefor separate courses and workshops are necessary. We will cover the order of sequence from your feet to ankles, knees and eventually how this affects the hips. Rolling movements are stationary and do not involve any steps. Understanding which body part we are working on, moving and in what order is key here. In this workshop we will only use the most basic salsa or bachata steps. The focus is the body, not learning new steps. All levels welcome! No partner necessary!
WORKSHOP! SALSA On2 FUNDAMENTALS - Salsa is upbeat, fun and exciting! This is by far the most popular Latin dance in the world and does not need much introduction as it is the King of Latin dance styles! We will go over the reason why so many dancers choose the particular style of Salsa on2. Please note this is not a "conversion" workshop on1 to on2 - No. This workshop will go over the most important and significant reasons, purpose and advantages of learning the particular style of Salsa on2! We will then put this into simple and fun Salsa partner work to apply these new skills! You will also learn some musical skill, such as how to identify the unique and special Salsa rhythm and how to "dance within the music". Come learn with Gian - who has been teaching Salsa professionally since 2003, has an exceptional skill for breaking concepts down and building them back up in a progressive and easy to understand manner. He is also an award winning multiple Salsa champion and 2016 World Professional Salsa Champion. All levels welcome! No partner necessary!
WORKSHOP! BACHATA SENSUAL FUNDAMENTALS - Sensual Bachata is a style of dance that is based entirely off Modern and Traditional Bachata, with the addition of "sensualised" torso isolations in the form of body waves, body rolls, body isolations, head rolls and other upper body and hip isolations. The focus is primarily from the hips up with some hip movement as well. In this workshop we will break down, drill and apply the technical and fundamental elements applicable specifically to characteristic Bachata Sensual moves! Note: Since these are
SENSUAL FUNDAMENTALS (not Bachata fundamentals), it can also be applied to other dance styles. Focus will be primarily on Bachata Sensual timing and techniques for Sensual movement in partnerwork, such as "rolling" and "isolation". Turn sequences will be minimal and very basic used only to get into position. You will discover techniques and fundamentals you may not have been aware of or knew how to apply! Basic timing and knowledge of fundamental footwork and partnerwork is necessary to take full advantage. Not suitable for absolute beginners.
WORKSHOP! LADIES BACHATA CHOREOGRAPHY - Hailing from Russia, Alina from Latinissimo Dance Auckland has been performing, competing, assisting and teaching Salsa and Bachata across New Zealand since 2019. In 2021 she was invited by Gian to join Latinissimo as an assistant instructor. Alina has a dance background from Hip-Hop and Grooves to High Heels technique, Vogue and Arm Control. Alina will be conducting this exciting Ladies Bachata Choreography workshop using bachata basic elements and mixing them up with some cool moves, feminine styling and body movement inspired from various styles! Learn a fun, simple, yet intermediate level short choreography! Alina is is full of energy on the dance floor and will make sure you have the most memorable time with her! All levels welcome!
